How to Set & Get your Goals

10 questions to ask yourself when setting your goals.

When I trained to become a personal trainer, back then we set goals using SMART. You may have come across it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time Frame. Although this is a useful place to start, psychology shows it doesn’t really go deep enough, and those who are successful in achieving their goals, go a bit deeper when setting their goals. Try these 10 questions instead.

Grab a pen & paper, and work your way through the following key questions for every goal, in order to clearly set and successfully get your goals:

1) Write out your goals – Make your goals huge, big, enormous, phenomenal. Write goals in present tense & paint a picture
2) Why do you want this goal?
3) Who will benefit from you achieving that goal?
4) Your discipline, how many hours will you spend?
5) What kind of confidence will you need to achieve that goal. What beliefs will you need?
6) You are worthy. Why are you worth it. What makes you worth it. Why do you deserve to achieve this goal?
7) Act as if your goal has already happened. Act, talk, think, speak it as if it’s already happened.
8) Write down what risks you’re going to take
9) Plan it, want it, write it, work on it. Know you’re worth it, & see it as if it’s already happening. What are the steps, actions you need to take to achieve your goal?
10) Who do you need to be?

Failure is part of success

Failure is part of success

Failure is part of success

Failure is part of Success – This is what the top performers know

We commonly believe that success and failure are the opposite ends of a spectrum. We see failure as being the opposite to success, and therefore, we think that when we fail at one of our goals or don’t achieve something, or we simply hit an obstacle, then we’ve failed and what we were hoping to achieve just isn’t obtainable for us. Quite often we then lose confidence in our abilities, and give up. However, this way of thinking is incorrect. Failure isn’t the opposite of success, it is in fact part of success. In order to succeed at something, you must first fail at least a couple of times along the way to success. And it’s in the failures that growth happens, that’s where we learn, adjust, improve and then ultimately achieve. If we didn’t fail, we wouldn’t learn, and in turn wouldn’t improve. JK Rawling was rejected 12 times before she became published. Just think about how many attempts Edison took to create the light bulb. Failing, rejection, knock backs are all part of the journey to success.

“I’ve not failed. I’ve just found 10,00 ways  that won’t work”. Thomas Edison

Top performers understand that failure is part of success. Fail often, fail fast.
Failing just means you’re one step closer to success.

The rules of the mind for sport

The rules of the mind for sport

Sport Mind

Set

Change your thinking, change the way you play, improve your game, improve your performance

Change your thinking, change the way you play, improve your game, improve your performance

“You can not hold any thought without it being expressed in the body”

The 8 Rules

Change your thinking, change the way you play, improve your game, improve your performance

1) You can’t hold any thought without it being expressed in your body. Thoughts are things and thoughts have a real physical effect on our body. So your thoughts impact how your body responds, so need to think helpful thoughts. Eg lemon test, magnet test, making a loop with your fingers demonstrate how your thoughts and words create a physical response. Every thought you think has a physical reaction and an emotional response.

2) The body must act and mimic the way you’re thinking. Body has no other choice but to mimic the mind, align with what the mind wants, what it believes / thinks you want. You must act in a way that is consistent with your thinking. Your body must act in a way that lines up with your thoughts you’re thinking and words you’re using. Every thought you think has a physical reaction and an emotional response – think about having a big fat juicy lemon. Your BODY simply must act to match your thinking. So when your mind is full of positive thinking The body has to act in a way that mimics your thinking. Your body simply must act in a way that matches your thinking. It literally has no other choice, your body is set up to mirror & match what is going on in your mind. Talk about it, plan for it, visualize. This is psycho biology. Don’t wish, instead plan, expect, focus, visualize, talk, imagine, positive thinking & talking.

3) Your body responds to your thoughts, real or imagined, good or bad, negative or positive. Your body believes everything you tell it. Mind believes everything you tell it. It believes what you’re saying, that it must be the truth and it acts of it. Your mind does not care if what you tell it is good or bad, helpful or unhelpful, right or wrong, it simply lets it in. Whatever you tell your mind it accepts. The mind doesn’t care whether what you tell it is right or wrong, so tell it good things, amazing things, as you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Your mind does not care if what you tell it is good or bad, helpful or unhelpful. It doesn’t care, it lets it in. You make your beliefs, and then your beliefs make you, and then the universe turns around and makes it real. Your mind has no choice but to listen to and act upon the words you tell it, you have a choice what you tell it.

4) The way you feel is only ever down to 2 things: the picture you make in your head and the words you say to yourself. Change your pictures & thoughts and everything is different. You can change your thinking. Every thought you think and every word you speak creates a blueprint that your mind and body work to make real. – Use this rule to form positive blueprints that change your life.

5) Imagination is more powerful than knowledge and logic, when dealing with your own mind or the minds of others. Eg scared of a plane crash having that imagination being terrified of being on a train, this rules over the fact that the most dangerous bit is the cab ride to the airport. We create pictures in our mind, and then we make those pictures real (and we do this in a completely unconscious way). The mind believes they are real (can use hypnosis to change this). I can, I’m phenominal, I’m good at this.

6) What you expect almost always tends to be realized eg I knew I wouldn’t get that job, I knew I’d miss that. Turn that around – I know it’s going to be amazing, powerful, phenominal. Turn your mind on, excite your mind. Expect amazing things.

7) Your mind learns by repetition. The mind loves words that are powerful, that make a picture, are descriptive. Speak in the present tense, use powerful, positive words. Your mind learns by repetition. Use this to wire in and fire in positive thoughts.

8) We are hardwired to resist what is unfamiliar and to run back to what it knows / what is familiar. Many years ago that is how we survived. So make what you want familiar.

9) The mind can’t hold conflicting beliefs – I want success but I can’t speak to people. I want a family but I’m going to have to give up so much to have that.
